Hervé Renard has called on the French Football Federation to provide ‘organized structure’ for soccer playing mothers after French and OL midfielder Amel Mejri turned up for the latest training camp with her nine-month-old baby. This is the first time a player has been allowed to bring a baby to Claire Fontaine.
Amel Majri had not been selected since 2021 and made her welcome return to the France women’s national team set up after being selected by recently appointed gaffer Hervé Renard.
What they said:
Coach Renard offered support for Majri, calling for on the French FA to make arrangements for mothers to provide organized structure for the benefit of players.
“It is essential to give structure to players who have young children. She has a nine-month-old daughter, it is difficult for a mother to leave her very young child at home, even if it is her job“, has also declared Hervé Renard.”
” Maybe one day we will find ourselves with four or five toddlers with us, if it is well organized, that is not a problem, ” he continued.
The 54-year-old trainer signaled a discrepancy to this matter at this level in France compared to other countries.
He said, “France is a little behind. Today, in the biggest world selections, there are a lot of things organized for children. You have to manage to have an organized structure with a nanny, with a space for the children to have fun, play with each other… This will not harm the functioning of the group and psychologically, this is of capital importance, continued Hervé Renard.
“To be well in your head, efficient, it is important to combine the two. There is progress to be made at the level of this assistance, of this organization. We will succeed in doing what the United States is doing. Maybe one day we will find ourselves with four or five toddlers with us, if it is well organized, that is not a problem,” he concluded.
Renard replaced Corinne Diacre as the head coach of the French women’s team and has already impacted positively. He has already reinstated Wendie Renard as the captain of the team after the player made herself available for selection.
