Manchester United will visit second-placed Chelsea hoping for a change of fortunes who they have seen the dominate the fixture in recent years. A win at Chelsea will see United remain firmly on course for a maiden crown just five years after being formation.

Head to head stats

Having played the WSL fixture six times, United hope to be seventh time lucky as they have lost five, drawn once and won none against Chelsea. Chelsea have scored a resounding 21 goals to a meagre seven by United across all competition. With the results from recent matches showing United have made progress, the visitors will be out to build on the performance they gave on the final day of last season when United almost ruined Chelsea’s title party.

United manager addressed the media and said: “We are going to need to be ruthless against Chelsea because you don’t get many chances, so we have to make sure we take them when we create them.

“This game won’t define the title but we have to show we have the mental capacity to go into these games without fear of an opponent.

“When we played them at home, we didn’t maximise our opportunities and potential. That’s what I am going to expect in this game.”

Just a single point separates the, with United occupying first, while the hosts have one game in hand on the Reds and occupy second spot.

Form Guide

Manchester United are on rich vein of form this season having collected maximum points on 11 of their 14 league matches so far. United have only lost once, and to Chelsea, this season.

Prior to last week’s ContiCup defeat, the Blues had been on a remarkable 21-game unbeaten streak in all competitions – which included WSL, Champions League and domestic cup fixtures. Chelsea bounced back on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory over Brighton.

Hayes criticized aspects of her players’ game saying ‘sometimes you need a reality check’ and said ‘there here was complacency’ in her teams’ performance.
