Orlando Pride will be sporting a slightly new look for the upcoming season. The club has made subtle changes to their kits from white to black shorts.
The move has been done in direct response to players’ concerns over competing during their period. As such the team will play in black shorts with their white tops and white socks, replacing the all-white away attire. The change will further see dark shorts for practice gear.
“Their worst nightmare of people being able to see that they are on their period is not going to happen with the black shorts,” Dr. Christine Greves, the team’s OB-GYN through its Orlando Health partnership, told the media.
Orlando Pride midfielder Erika Tymrak said, “The reasons behind not wanting to wear white shorts are clear, but it is unfortunately something that hasn’t been addressed until recently.”
“I think it’s a big step for us as a club to make players feel comfortable and allow us to focus solely on competing.”
The move comes after Manchester City became the first English top-flight women’s team to get rid of white shorts. This is amid growing calls to eradicate Byzantine rules requiring white clothing.
