Kansas City Current team news
The hosts will be looking to bounce back after an opening week 1-0 loss in North Carolina against North Carolina Courage. KCC worked hard against Courage and were undone by their inability to convert from 10 shots, with three on target, that they amassed. Michelle Cooper was unlucky in front of goal as she registered four shots, two of which were on target.
Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta topped fouls won (5) in the club’s opening weekend, more than any other Current player on the field. LaBonta will undoubtedly be the player to watch for KC Current.
Portland Thorns FC team news
Attacker Morgan Weaver has scored four goals in three matches on the bounce, a streak that involves two matches from the previous season. Weaver opened the score card for Thorns FC in their 4-0 win over Orlando Pride. Other scorers on the night were Sophia Smith (22’), Hina Sugita (49’), and Michele Vasconcelos (76’). Thorns were impressive on both ends of the field, registering 16 shots on target and allowed just one shot on goal. Morgan Weaver will pose the most attacking threat for Portland Thorns FC and will surely be the player to watch
Portland remain unbeaten all-time in all competitions against the Current, winning five and drawing twice in the seven meetings. Kansas City has scored just twice in those matches and has never led Portland in any match.
