Embattled manager Corinne Diacre has been dismissed by French FA executive board meeting on Thursday.
Under pressure after a spate of withdrawals by key players in the past weeks, Diacre’s position became untenable when the French FA announced a meeting had been penciled to discuss her future as manager.
A four-member commission within the French FA’s executive board was tasked with carrying out hearings to determine Diacre’s future, with a view to making a decision today.
Diacre’s exit comes hard on the heals of Noël Le Graët resignation as French FA’s president.
The statement by French FA read, “The numerous hearings carried out made it possible to establish the observation of a very significant divide with executive players and highlighted a discrepancy with the requirements of the very high level. This fracture has reached a point of no return which harms the interests of the selection.”
The FFF statement also noted with concern how Renard and her counterparts aired their discontent on social media.
The FFF stated, “The committee also noted that the way used by the players to express their criticisms was no longer acceptable in the future.”
Renard, a vital cog in the French set up with 142 appearances, took to social media and said she was taking a step back from the team “to preserve my mental health”.
On the eve of the sacking, Diacre braved the storm and vowed to carry on denouncing what she described as a “smear campaign” against her.
During Diacre’s reign , France have not reached a major final and lost to Germany in the Euro 2022 semi-finals.
The latest developments leaves France in a catch 22 situation going into this summer. The Women’s World Cup is only four months away.
The FFF needs to act quickly to bring in a suitable replacement to prepare for the tournament that they have the ability to win.
